Caribou Hunt - Day 2
We made our permanent
camp in the Happy Valley next
to the Sagavanirktok River
(Sag River).

Here's Gaylee, Alex, and Zach
near the tents.
Isn't this beautiful waterfront
property?

See the bushes next to Reese?
Yeah, that's about as high as
they get. It's hard to stalk
animals with no cover...
Zach's favorite
pastime in
camp was
throwing rocks
in the river.
The next day we woke
up under a fresh
dusting of snow. It
looked really pretty!
By noon, it had all
melted away. It
continued like that
for the rest of the
week.
Cameron is attempting to stalk those caribou in the background. Herein lies the challenge. How do
you sneak up on animals when there is no cover? The strategy here is to walk slowly, mimicking
the movements of the caribou. He holds his bow up to mimic antlers. It does work for some, but
didn't this time.
He is still at least 100 yards
from the caribou at this point.
The closest they ever got was
about 70 yards.
On our drive out, we
saw a big herd of musk
ox. They were about
50 yards off the road.
