In September this year, Cameron invited the whole family to go on a
caribou bow hunt with him. So, we drove up the Dalton Hwy, which
parallels the Alyeska Pipeline all the way to Deadhorse, Alaska (9 miles
from the Arctic Ocean). You can see the pipeline in the first picture. It's
about 15 hours north of Anchorage/Wasilla where we live.
Luckily, the kids and the
dog are very good
travelers. We had gorgeous
views and great roads all
the way there and back!
We stayed at
Galbraith Camp
(about 140 miles
from Deadhorse) the
first night. We woke
up to a beautiful
sunrise with some
amazing fog over
the lake.
In the
morning, we
drove further
north with a
destination of
Happy Valley
(about 70
miles from
Deadhorse.)
The boys spotted a
caribou along the way,
so we stopped so they
could stalk it. As you
can see, they are no
trees here. The last tree
is before the Atigun
Pass, where we crossed
the Continental Divide.
It's basically an arctic
desert, but the tundra is
soft, with spongy, lumpy
ground.
So, as we watched the stalk, Zach "glassed"
the hills for more caribou.

We also traveled with
our good friends, the
Newbolds. That's their
truck in the picture
above.
